"Life is far too important to be taken too seriously.“

With this attitude, Herbert Mederer, our mastermind, laid the foundation for a new era of crazy, creative and delicious gummy candies in the 1970s. He called his brand Trolli.

With Trolli’s unmistakable spirit and the right amount of fun, we translated this zest for life into our brand claim which has accompanied us since 2021: Let the fun win. It sums up what drives us: making the world a little more colorful and delicious with fun, creativity and a wink.

How it all began...

Trolli’s history began in 1948 when Willy Mederer founded a confectionery business. He was the father and role model of Herbert Mederer.

He delighted snack-lovers with peppermint fondant, cream hats and cream sticks, and the range steadily grew with more and more new creations.

At age 17, Herbert Mederer joined the family business and later laid the foundation for one of the world’s most creative gummy candy brands.

In 1979, the company registered “Trolli der Bär” as a trademark: the starting signal for a new era. In 1984, Herbert Mederer took over management of the company following his father’s death.

Trolli goes international!

With a wealth of ideas, passion for innovation and courage to be extraordinary, Herbert Mederer revolutionized the gummy candy market. From “Trolli Wurrlis” to the popular “Trolli Apfelringe” to the “Trolli Burger”, one crazy highlight followed another. In 1993, the classic “Trolli Saure Glühwürmchen” were introduced. They became an international success, and Herbert Mederer was honored with the prestigious Candy Kettle Award for his creative, pioneering work.

This marked the beginning of Trolli's expansion into the international market.

Trolli’s journey abroad began in 1986 when a factory was built in Creston, Iowa, to delight fans across the Atlantic.

The next milestone came in 1994 with a new production site in Valencia, Spain.

In 1998, Trolli acquired a factory site in Neunburg vorm Wald. Just two years later, in 2000, we added production capacity in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: the Hagenow site was consistently expanded in the following years, including the construction of a modern high-bay warehouse.

In 2001, we took the next step with the establishment of a production facility in Guangzhou, China.

In 2002, we returned to the US market with our own sales office after having sold the site and the Trolli brand there in 1997.

In 2012, the previously independent units in Fürth, Neunburg vorm Wald, and Hagenow finally merged to form today’s Trolli GmbH. We discontinued production in Fürth and relocated it entirely to Hagenow and Neunburg vorm Wald: a strategic move that has strengthened our production capacities sustainably.
